These jaws are for turners with one thing on their mind: big turning works such as bowls or platters. In this case, big means over 400mm (16") in diameter - although smaller work could be mounted if the design required a larger foot or extension. Work can be mounted, as with other jaws, in the expansion mode, using a recess. However, the most popular holding mode for this jaw is the reverse dovetail spigot facility (contracting mode) for larger footed bowls and platters. This is recommended for work up to 750mm (29.5") in diameter by 75mm (3") depth. Greater depth can be achieved at smaller diameters.
