Trying to use an electric power plane right up to the edge or on rabbets quite often results in an unsatisfactory outcome with the machine leaving a lip that has to be removed by hand —unless of course, you have the Festool HL850E! This powerful hand held electric planer is in a class of its own in many ways, amongst them that it allows you to cut flush against an adjacent surface and across the entire width of the rabbet. The planer head is mounted to one side only, allowing the opposite side to be flush with the outside edge of the opposite side of the housing. A retractable guard keeps the cutterhead safely hidden but can be swung out and to the side as required. The Festool HL850E can accept interchangeable heads to create different effects from distressed to hand-hewn textures and used as a jointer with the optional stand. Rotary handle depth adjustment and thumb lock make depth setting a one handed operation.
